TROY, N.Y. – The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced its finalists for the 2010 State Farm Coaches All-America Team and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Whitney Coleman has been selected. One of 80 national finalists, she is the third RPI player to receive All-America consideration.

Coleman, a graduate student and two-time captain out of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., averaged a Liberty League best 17.5 points per game. Second in the league in rebounding (9.2 boards per game), assists (110) and assists/turnover ratio (1.02), she recorded 12 double-doubles and had ten 20+ point games. A guard, Coleman also led the Engineers in steals (65) and was second on the squad in blocks (31) and minutes average (33.7).

A former Etiwanda High School standout, Coleman is the all-time scoring leader at Rensselaer, totaling 1,530 points in 104 games for a 14.7 points per game average. She is also seventh on the school's all-time rebounding list, hauling in 693 boards. Coleman logged 30.0 minutes per game throughout her career, with 307 assists, 187 steals and 69 blocks. She connected on a school-record 562 field goals in 1,423 attempts (39.5%), making 45 three-pointers, while hitting 361 of 489 (73.8%) free-throws.

Coleman was a three-time All-Liberty League First Team selection, all coming in her last three full seasons. She garnered Guard of the Week recognition 18 times in her career, including nine times in 2009-10. A D3Hoops.com All-Regional First Team selection, she was also a multiple Dean's List and Liberty League All-Academic honoree.

As a senior, Coleman averaged 16.7 points and 6.4 rebounds, while starting all 24 games. She recorded 62 assists, 32 steals and 12 blocked shots. An injury limited her junior season to just two games.

In the 2006-07 season, Coleman scored 13.3 points and hauled in 6.3 rebounds per game. She dished out 74 assists, nabbed 48 steals and blocked 10 shots. As a freshman, she averaged 11.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest, earning Liberty League Rookie of the Year and All-Liberty League Second Team honors. She was also named Rookie of the Week four times in 2005-06.

The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team will be presented at the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Banquet on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at The Chateau Hotel in Bloomington, Ill.

The Engineers made the NCAA Tournament for only the second time in school history, but fell to Southern Maine, 74-63, in the First Round, in Amherst, Mass. Rensselaer concluded its 2009-10 season with a 17-11 overall record, including a 10-4 mark in conference play.
