Nine From Football Honored by NFF

Rensselaer seniors gain membership into Hampshire Honor Society

TROY, N.Y. – The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced the members of the 2010 NFF Hampshire Honor Society and nine Rensselaer student-athletes have been selected. Seniors Tim Acker, Justin Foglia, Brian Hall, Colton Hill, Kyle Jung, Jason Neville, David Schepperly, Stefan Shulz and Bobby Stutz were among the 620 student-athletes named.

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 GPA or better, began in 2007 and has seen an 80% increase in membership since its inaugural year.

A safety, Acker (Arlington, WA/Arlington) was second on the team with 69 tackles, including 44 solo stops and 2.5 for lost yardage. He also recorded one sack, forced a fumble and recovered another. The All-Liberty League First Team defensive back, also returned 10 kick-offs for 203 yards and four punts for 26 yards.

Foglia (Watervliet, NY/Catholic Central), a defensive back, started all nine games for the Engineers in 2010, totaling 33 tackles (14 assists), with an interception and a fumble recovery, earning Liberty League All-Academic.

Hall (Penn Yan, NY/Pen Yan Academy) was an All-Liberty League Second Team selection, anchoring an offensive line that rushed for 155.0 yards per game. He started every game since arriving at RPI, including all nine this season and was a Liberty League All-Academic.

A defensive lineman, Hill (Troy, NY/Tamarac) started all nine games last season, with 47 tackles (24 assists), including nine for lost yardage (35). He had four sacks, a forced fumble and a pass break-up and was a Liberty League All-Academic selection.

Jung (Goshen, NY/Goshen), a tight end, started in eight of the team's nine games, helping an offense that ran for 1,395 yards and 12 touchdowns. Making one reception, he was named to the Liberty League All-Academic squad.

Neville (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane), a defensive back, played in eight games last season, recording 14 tackles (10 assists), including 0.5 for lost yardage.

Schepperly (Hopewell Junction, NY/Carmel) played in all nine games for the Engineers at linebacker. He recorded 41 tackles, including 20 solo and 7.0 for lost yardage. He also had two sacks and team-best seven pass break-ups, while earning Liberty League All-Academic honors.

A linebacker, Shulz (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) started in eight games and notched 65 tackles (33 assists), including one for lost yardage (3). He had two interceptions, returned for 27 yards, and recovered a fumble. Sixth in the Liberty League in tackles per game (8.5), the one-time Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week was also Liberty League All-Academic.

Stutz (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Dobbs Ferry), a cornerback, played in all nine games, recording 22 tackles (8 assists), including one for lost yardage. The team leader with four interceptions, he also had a fumble recovery and was named All-Liberty League Second Team, Liberty League All-Academic and CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team.
