TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Athletics website, www.rpiathletics.com, set a visitor record last academic year, totaling 523,324 viewers from the end of August 2009, through the end of August 2010. Fans of Engineers Athletics have amassed 2.5 million page views in that span, as well as watched a record 24,693 videos on the department's YouTube Channel.
The Athletic Department has seen its site's viewership increase in a number of areas, including overall visits (17.9%), unique visitors (12.8%) and page views (5.3%) when compared to 2008-09. Google searches for “rpiathletics” have increased nearly 40% (37.2), while the page's top referring sites, which include Facebook and Twitter, have seen increases of 365% and 3,634%, respectively.
Individual sports pages that have had a significant hike in traffic flow over the last year include men's soccer (347.7%), men's hockey (282.1%), football (217.0%), women's soccer (212.9%), women's ice hockey (144.8%) and men's lacrosse (116.5%).
Also, the site's direct traffic has increased significantly, growing from roughly 82,000 visits in 2006-07 to over 121,000 in 2009-10.
In addition to the increased viewership of rpiathletics.com, the Athletic Department's Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages have seen a tremendous accession in fans, followers and subscribers, respectively, over the last 12 months.
