TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its year-end awards in women's soccer and four Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been honored. Sophomore Brittany Van Grouw garnered First Team recognition, while junior Nikki Goodsell, freshman Taylor Korytko and sophomore Sara Rothschild were Honorable Mention selections.

A defender out of Fair Lawn, N.J., Van Grouw played nearly every minute of the 2011 season at centerback, leading the Engineers to their first winning record since 2002. She helped lead an RPI defense that surrendered an average of 10.1 shots per game, which was good for fifth in the Liberty League.

This is the first career year-end honor for the Fair Lawn High School graduate, who helped the Engineers limit their opponents to just 4.41 shots on goal per game to rank fourth in the conference.  Additionally, Rensselaer posted five shutouts.

Named to the Honorable Mention team for the second time in her career, Goodsell finished fourth on the squad in scoring with two goals and four assists for eight points.  The Danbury, Conn., native also notched 27 shots, including 11 on goal with two game-winning tallies.

A former standout at Danbury High School, Goodsell ranks fifth in game-winning goals among Liberty League opponents.  One of her top performances came in a 3-1 victory over Bard as she notched the game-winning goal and assisted on another.

Korytko, a rookie midfielder out of Tampa, Fla., was second on the Engineers in scoring, while starting in 16 of the squads's 17 matches. She was second on the club in goals (4) and third in assists (2) for 10 points.  Korytko also ranked third overall in shots (37) and shots on goal (13), while posting one game-winning tally.

The Hamilton High School (AZ) graduate currently ranks seventh in the Liberty League in shots per game (2.50) and is eighth overall in total shots.

A forward from Manlius, N.Y., Rothschild picked up her first career year-end honor after leading the team in scoring with seven goals and three assists for 17 points.  A starter in all 17 contests for the Engineers, she had a team-best 53 shots, including 26 on goal, while also adding a game-winning goal.

The Fayetteville-Manlius High School graduate currently ranks among the conference leaders in a number of categories, including second in shots on goal per game (1.60), third in shots and shots per contest (3.20), fifth in points per game (1.00) and sixth in goals, goals per game (0.40) and total points.

Rensselaer, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Cord Farmer, went 8-7-2 on the season, including a 4-3-1 mark in the Liberty League.  The team finished fifth in the overall conference standings, just one point shy of making the Liberty League Playoffs.
