Game 2 Box Score

ALBANY, N.Y. - Freshman designated player Amanda Blake drove in both runs and freshman pitcher Alyssa Wolejko struck out six as Union College defeated the University of Rochester, 2-0 in a Liberty League Softball Tournament Game at Cathy Cummings Haker Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex Friday. The Dutchwomen improved to 16-22 overall while the Yellowjackets fell to 23-14.

With the win, Union will face RPI Saturday at 12:30 p.m., following the elimination 10 a.m. game between St. Lawrence and Rochester.

Blake had an RBI double in the fourth and added an RBI single in the sixth to provide all the runs in the contest. In the fourth, Lauren Hoffman reached on an infield error, and was bunted over by Rachel Noall. Blake hit a gapper into right center to score Hoffman for a 1-0 lead. It was the first Union hit of the day off Rochester's Madeline Skellie, who pitched a perfect three innings to start the contest.

In the sixth, Carson Mehl led off with a single, and was bunted over by Hoffman. Noall singled to right and Mehl was held at second with one out, then Blake singled to left to drive in the insurance run. Wolejko improved to 11-7 and is second in the league with 103 strikeouts.

Skellie gave up just two other hits besides Blake's safeties. She struck out four and did not walk a batter while falling to 13-7 on the season.

Rochester threatened in the bottom of the fifth. Erin Clark had a single to lead off the inning, but was forced at second on a fielder's choice by Samantha Melvin. Cara Celorio singled through the left side and after Katie McLean grounded out to short, there were runners on second and third with two down. But Wolejko got Meghan Hennessy to fly to left to end the threat.

In the sixth, Natalee Sassaman walked, and was bunted over to second, but she tried to head to third and was thrown out for the second out. Liz Slupinski singled to the left side and after Lindsay Macaluso singled for two runners on with two out, Wolejko struck out the final batter of the inning.
