TROY, N.Y. - In what has become one of the most anticipated events of the season, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's (RPI) student-athletes were once again welcomed back to campus as part of the Annual Ice Cream Social at the East Campus Athletic Village Arena. Over 600 student-athletes, the athletic department staff, members of the Student Life Division and several Academic Liaisons converged to hear remarks from Dr. Timothy Sams, the Vice President for Student Life, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President Michelle Denny, and Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton, who served as the master of ceremonies.
Dr. Sams discussed the student-athlete's important role as part of the Rensselaer Family, especially in the context of CLASS, while Knowlton praised those in attendance for the recent success of the athletic department. Athletically nearly every team posted a winning record, there were eight Players of the Year and every team had a 3.0 grade point average.
Following the speakers, all the student-athletes, staff and other guests were invited to enjoy ice cream sundaes from The Snowman.
