Hat Trick Lifts Dartmouth Past Women's Hockey

Ottenbreit's nets all three goals in 3-0 victory for Big Green

TROY, N.Y. - Sophomore Kennedy Ottenbreit scored all three goals, including two on the power-play, to lift the Dartmouth College women's hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this evening at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Big Green improve to 8-7-1 overall (4-5-1 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 4-14-3 (2-7-0 ECAC Hockey).

Ottenbreit (Grayson, SA/Shattuck's St. Mary's) opened the scoring at 19:43 of the first period, with assists going to classmate Eleni Tebano (Glastonbury, CT/Westminster School) and junior Catherine Berghuis (Truro, NS/Mississauga Chiefs). Despite being out-shot 7-6, the Big Green took its 1-0 lead to the first intermission.

Following a scoreless second period, in which each team was credited with six shots, the Engineers nearly equalized, but senior Delaney Middlebrook (Minneapolis, MN/Niagara University) was denied on the doorstep, when Big Green sophomore netminder Robyn Chemago (Slave Lake, AB/Slave Lake Minor Hockey) made a left toe save.

The visitors doubled their lead at 7:36 of the third, thanks to Ottenbreit's second marker of the game. Once again on the man advantage, Dartmouth worked the puck to the high slot for Ottenbreit, who ripped a shot into the top right corner of the net. Helpers went to senior Morgan Illikainen (Grand Rapids, MN/Minnesota Jr. Whitecaps) and junior Lindsey Allen (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros).

Ottenbreit finished off the hat trick with an empty-net goal at 17:39 of the third. Picking up a loose puck in the neutral zone, she skated in flipped the puck into the vacant RPI cage.

Chemago turned in 20 saves on the night, while RPI senior goaltender Kelly O'Brien (Sussex, WI/Madison Capitals) made 15 stops at the other end of the ice. Dartmouth finished 2 for 4 on the power-play, while the Engineers were 0 for 5.

Rensselaer concludes its season-long nine-game homestand tomorrow afternoon, when it hosts sixth-ranked Harvard (4pm). The Big Green visit Union (4pm).
