TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track and field team will be captained by seniors Alexa Sakorafos and Andrea Ukleja, along with junior Elizabeth Selkis, it has been announced. This the second straight year the trio will lead the Engineers, who are coached by Colin Tory. RPI begins the indoor portion of their schedule on Saturday at Bowdoin College in Maine.

Sakorafos (Brookfield, CT / Immaculate) runs distance events, including 800 meters, 1000 meters, 1500 meters, the mile and 3000 meters. She established three personal bests last season with two coming in outdoor competition. She ran a 2:22.13 in winning the 800 at the Capital District Classic and had a 4:51.67 in the 1500 meters at the Liberty League Championship Meet, finishing fifth. Sakorafos, an industrial and management engineering major, set a personal standard in the 1000 meters at the ECAC Indoor Championship, finishing in a time of 3:03.89.

Her best times in the 3000 meters and mile were established in 2014 and 2013, respectively. It was at the 2014 Bowdoin January Invitational when she ran the 3000 in 11:10.3, finishing third, and at the 2013 New York State Indoor Championship when she completed the mile in 5:22.74.

Also a member of the cross country team, Sakorafos helped that program to a school record ninth-place finish at the NCAA Championship in the fall. A four-year participant, she captained that squad in 2014.

Ukleja (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Hills) is coming off a year in which she had nine top three finishes and established her best performances in each of the four throwing events. She threw the weight 14.39 meters at the New York State Indoor Championship, while the other three came during the outdoor season. Her best effort in the shot put was 11.73 meters, helping her to a second place finish at the Oneonta May Meet. She threw the discus 35.86 meters at the Engineers Cup Meet and the hammer 42.34 meters at the Liberty League Championship, finishing third.

The 2013 New York State Outdoor discus champion (34.80 meters), Ukleja is a mechanical engineering major.

A biomedical engineering major, Selkis (Latham, NY / Catholic Central) participates in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. She established personal records in all three last season - all during outdoor competition. She went 1.54 in the high jump at the Engineers Cup Meet to tie her personal mark, which she originally set in 2014 at the league's outdoor championship meet. It was at the 2015 Liberty League Championship that Selkis leaped a personal best 4.81 meters in the long jump and she set a personal record in the triple jump when she won the Capital District Classic with a distance of 11.11 meters.
