ELSAH, Ill., - Junior captain Grant O'Connor took fourth place individually at the 2017 DIII NCAA Cross Country Championship meet on Saturday, leading Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to 14th out of the 32 competing schools.

O'Connor (West Hartford, CT/Hall) finished the 8k race in a time of 24:19.35, which was five seconds behind North Central junior Dhruvil Patel (24:14.15) and seven seconds back of North Central freshman Jared Borowsky (24:12.44). Wisconsin-Eau Claire senior Darin Lau won the event in 24:03.59.

Junior Sean O'Connor (Stamford, CT/South Kortright Central) was the second RPI runner to cross the line, registering a time of 25:18.18, while sophomore Joe Domanico (Haddon Township, NJ/Haddon Township) ran a 25:39.14. Senior James Anderson (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) and sophomore Joe Pisacano (Philadelphia, PA/St. Joseph's Prep) were next at 25:47.90 and 25:53.59, respectively.

North Central took the team championship with 57 points, followed by Wisconsin-La Crosse (196) and Christopher Newport (221). RPI's average time was 25:23.64, which was less than 10 seconds out of the top five.
