CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshman Mary Restuccia scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Boston College women's ice hockey team to a 5-2 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Kelley Rink.
The Eagles, the #10-ranked team in the nation, got the scoring starting early when Kelli Stack netted her fifth goal of the season nine minutes into the opening frame to put BC on top 1-0.
Freshman forward Andrea Green netted her first collegiate goal with assists from classmates Meghan Fardelmann and Restuccia for a 2-1 lead. Green's fellow Minnesotan, Danielle Welch, got in on the scoring with a power play goal at 9:10 in the second period for a three-goal margin. Defensemen Kaitlyn Kurth and Stack were credited with the assist.
RPI got on the board at the end of the second period when senior
Nicole McDonald (Ottawa, ON/Ottawa Raiders) netted a power play goal to send the teams into the locker rooms with the Eagles leading 3-1. Freshmen
Sierra Vadner (Apple Valley, MN/Minnesota Thoroughbreds) and
Alisa Harrison (Vienna, VA/Washington Pride) set up the goal, McDonald's first of the season.
BC answered four minutes into the third frame when Restuccia, assisted by Fardelmann and freshman blueliner Kristin Regan, scored her first collegiate goal.
The Engineers countered with their second goal of the game halfway through the third period -
Kendra Dunlop's (Granum, AB / Warner Hockey School) second goal of the season - to cut BC's lead to two, 4-2.
The Eagles added to their lead with a shorthaded, empty netter by Restuccia to close the door on RPI and give them their second win of the season. Boston College is now 2-0-2.
Eagles goaltender Molly Schaus made 21 saves on the day, while Rensselaer's
Sonja van der Bliek (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros) stopped 20 shots. The Engineers are now 1-2-0.
