TROY, N.Y. – The Vassar women's soccer team scored two goals late in the first half and held on for a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Brewers improve to 6-3 overall, including a 2-1 mark in Liberty League play. The loss drops the Red Hawks to 5-5 and 0-3.

The Brewers opened the scoring in the 39th minute, when senior Nola Solomon (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day) fed a pass across the top of the RPI penalty area to freshman Caroline Jaquiss (Little Rock, AR/Pulaski Academy), who ripped a right-footed shot past RPI goalie Meghan White (Kingston, NY/Kingston).

Solomon extended Vassar's lead to 2-0 in the 45th minute as her shot deflected off of a Rensselaer defender and into the net. Sophomore Allison McManus (Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd) delivered a corner kick to the middle of the 18 for Solomon, who trapped the ball down and finished.

After being outshot 9-3 in the first half, Rensselaer picked up the pace offensively in the second, equaling the Brewers second half total of 13 attempts on goal.

The Red Hawks best opportunity to score came in the 59th minute, when freshman Catherine Harvey (Portland, OR/Liberty) saw her header clank squarely off the post. Harvey and classmate Alexandra Fontanetta (Neshanic Station, NJ/Mount Saint Mary Academy) each finished with a team-high four shots.

Solomon also led the Brewers with six shots, while McManus finished the game with an assist and five shot attempts.

Vassar senior goaltender Anne Hutchinson (St. Pete Beach, FL/Tampa Preparatory) earned the shutout, making four saves. She is now 6-3, having started every game for the Brewers. White, who made four stops, falls to 4-5.

The Red Hawks return to action on Friday (4pm) and Saturday (2pm) when they visit league rivals St. Lawrence and Clarkson, respectively. The Brewers host St. Joseph's (LI) College on Monday (4pm).
