POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Rensselaer men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept Vassar behind strong performances from a number of student-athletes. The men's side topped the Brewers 184-109, while the women won by a count of 161-137.
Red Hawks' senior
Matthew Culen (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) led the way in the diving events, finishing first off both the 1-meter (287.70) and the 3-meter board (295.25). Freshman
Chris Hall (Villanova, PA/Friend's Central School) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.76.
For the women, junior
Meredith Eger (Littleton, CO/Heritage) won the 100 free with a 56.28, took first in the 1000 free in a time of 11:28.38, finished second in the 50 free with a 25.93 and anchored the 400 free relay team to a first place finish in a time 3:48.76. Classmate
Aimee Catroppa (Scotia, NY / Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) also had a solid afternoon, winning the 200 butterfly in 2:17.15, the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.72 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:02.63.
The Red Hawks are back in the pool the weekend of December 5, when they host the Liberty League Championships at Robison Pool.
