ITHACA, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) turned in another steady day of performances on Friday at the 2026 Liberty League Swimming & Diving Championships at Ithaca College, with the women's team holding firm in second place and the men remaining third among the nine competing programs as the meet moved into its final day.
The session opened with the 200 medley relays, where both RPI squads reached the scoring positions. The men's quartet of
Jason Weller,
Peter Meehan,
Tyler Kim, and
Beckham Palmer placed fourth with a time of 1:33.20, while the women's relay of
Ellen Lorentz,
Audrey Lewis,
Elizabeth Rose, and
Vera Korff also finished fourth, touching in 1:47.87.
Strong individual swims followed in the 200 butterfly, led on the men's side by
Hayden Dinkin, who placed fourth with a time of 1:51.97. The women collected valuable points in the same event, as
Hannah Goddard earned a third-place finish in 2:08.39 and
Corinne Boyle followed closely behind in fourth at 2:12.67.
The 100 backstroke proved to be another productive event for the Engineers, highlighted by
Jason Weller's second-place effort on the men's side with a time of 49.82 seconds.
Rittivuth Chea added a sixth-place finish in 52.11, while the women's backstroke group was paced by
Caroline Steeves, who placed second in 57.72.
Ellen Lorentz finished tied for sixth at 58.55, with
Daytona Duggan rounding out the RPI scorers in eighth at 58.89.
In the 100 breaststroke,
Peter Meehan led the men with a fifth-place finish and a time of 56.76. On the women's side,
Audrey Lewis placed sixth in 1:09.40, followed by
Katie Pierce in seventh at 1:09.77, as both continued to add points for the Engineers.
The evening concluded with the 800 freestyle relays, where RPI once again reached the podium. The men's relay team of
Sam Ciegler, Phillipe Diaz,
Hayden Dinkin, and
Tyler Kim placed fourth with a time of 6:55.82. The women closed the night on a high note as well, as
Sierra Pargett,
Theresa Funderburk,
Ellie Tandlmayer, and
Daytona Duggan combined for a third-place finish in 7:50.42.
The championships conclude Saturday with the 1650 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, women's 3-meter diving, and the 400 freestyle relay.
