BOSTON, Mass. - Three players reached double digits, including a game-high 18 by senior guard Whitney Coleman, to lead Rensselaer to an 80-56 victory over Salve Regina at the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.  The Red Hawks improve to 3-1 on the season while the Seahawks drop to 1-2.

RPI charged out to an early lead to open the game, shooting 63.0% from the field for a 42-25 lead after the first 20 minutes.  The teams battled back and forth to get things going but a three-pointer by freshman Sarah Wetmore at 13:15 made it 15-8 and the Red Hawks were hard pressed to relinquish the lead.

Rookie Laura Easterling sunk a pair of free throws at the 7:19 mark to give RPI a 12-point advantage and the Red Hawks held on to a double-digit advantage through the remainder of the opening half.  Rensselaer led by as many 19 with 1:37 remaining thanks to a layup by senior Elizabeth Barker but Salve Regina's Liane Barone sunk a three-point shot from behind the arc to make it 42-25 at the half.

The Seahawks attempted to chip away at RPI's lead in the second half, scoring six points, including four by Lindsay Shore to make it 44-31 at 17:38.  Erin Phillips cut the deficit to as few as nine (55-46) with 9:47 remaining, but Salve Regina could not overcome the Red Hawks offense.

In addition to Coleman, Barker added 12 points and seven rebounds while Easterling added 11 points and six boards.

Salve Regina, which shot just 28.6% in the opening half, rebounded for a 40.6% in the second and was led in scoring by Shorey with 16 points.  Phillips added 14 points while Allegra Lovoy had a double double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The Red Hawks return to action tomorrow afternoon in the championship game of the Emmanuel College Tip-Off.  They will play either the host team or Randolph College at 3pm.
