Women's Soccer Improves to 4-0

Red Hawks blank Bard, 6-0, to remain undefeated

TROY, N.Y. – Powered by five second-half goals, including two by junior midfielder Briana Bet (Whitehall, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team defeated Bard College, 6-0, in non-conference action this evening. The Red Hawks remain undefeated on the season with a 4-0 record. The Raptors fall to 1-3 on the season.

Leading 1-0 after the first 45 minutes on a tally by freshman Alexandra Fontanetta (Neshanic Station, NJ/Mount Saint Mary Academy), Rensselaer broke open the game in the second stanza with five unanswered tallies.

Bet gave the homestanding Red Hawks a two-goal advantage in the 50th minute when she collected the ball at the top of the box, settled it at her feet and sent a long shot over the head of Raptors goalie Nic Minatel (Campinas, Brazil/EAC Campinas).

RPI went up 3-0 minutes later after a cross from senior midfielder Judy Kastner (West Islip, NY/West Islip) deflected off a Bard defender and in for the own goal in 56th minutes.

Bet scored her second of tally of the game and classmate Amanda Nicklin (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) added one of her own less than a minute later to give Rensselaer the 5-0 advantage in the 66th minute.

A late goal by junior Amanda Brophy (Scituate, MA/Milton Academy) made it a six-tally advantage for the Red Hawks, which outshot Bard, 35-4, in the game.

In addition to Bet, who also had an assist, RPI saw Kastner and freshman Erin Atha (Kennesaw, GA/North Cobb) earn assists. Sophomore Meghan White (Kingston, NY/Kingston) started the game in goal for the Red Hawks before giving way to classmate Jaclyn Henry (West Warwick, RI/West Warwick), who picked up her first career victory making one save in nearly 74 minutes played.

For Bard, Minatel stopped 10 shots on the night while Jessica Philpott (Hot Springs, VA/Bath County) made no shots in 22 minutes of relief.

Rensselaer returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Utica (1pm). Bard is in action on Friday, hosting Penn State Berks (7pm).
