ITHACA, N.Y. — Junior midfielder Chris Havis (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) scored the only goal of the game in leading the Ithaca men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer this afternoon. The Bombers improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Red Hawks fall to 5-2.

Havis scored the game-winning goal in the 67th minute. He received a long pass from junior midfielder Ata Movassaghi (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) and ripped the shot into the top left corner of the net. The Bombers, which outshot Rensselaer 10-8, was then able to hold on for the win.

Senior goalkeeper Andy Wilhelm (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) made four saves for Ithaca, including his biggest save which came with four minutes left in the game. An RPI direct kick curled toward the far post, but Wilhelm dove to his left and tipped the ball away.

Red Hawks keeper Alex Penny (Northport, NY/Northport) made six stops in net. Offensively, Junior Lincoln Field (Contoocook, NH/Hopkinton) lead the team with three shots.

Rensselaer returns to action on Friday, when it open its Liberty League schedule at Skidmore (4pm). The Bombers open Empire 8 play Saturday when they play at Utica (12pm).
