TROY, N.Y. – The Springfield College women's soccer team got three goals from three different players in defeating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 3-0, this afternoon at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Pride improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Red Hawks move to 5-1 overall.

Junior forward Caitlin Sawczuk (Plainville, CT/Plainville) got the scoring started in the second minute. She picked up a loose ball at the corner of the RPI penalty area and lofted a shot over the outstretched arms of Red Hawks goalkeeper Meghan White (Kingston, NY/Kingston) for a 1-0 lead.

The Pride stuck again in the 10th minute, this time on a cross from freshman midfielder Jen Jahoda (Lebanon, CT/Lyman Memorial), which found sophomore defender Gina Calabrese (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow) at the top of the box. Calabrese took the ball down and blasted a shot past White for a 2-0 advantage.

Springfield sophomore Brittany Collins (South Windsor, CT/South Windsor) closed out the scoring in the 41st minute as her 45-yard strike sailed into the upper-right corner of the net.

The Red Hawks, who nearly scored late in the first half, had a number of chances in the second, but could not find the target. Freshman Alexandra Fontanetta (Neshanic Station, NJ/Mount Saint Mary Academy) paced the team with three shots, including one on goal. Senior Sarah Hinz (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock) also had a shot on net.

White, who falls to 4-1 on the year, made six saves for Rensselaer, while Pride senior goalie Sue Jenney (Agawam, MA/Agawam), who is now 4-2, had two stops.

The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday (5pm), when they host MCLA at Renwyck Field. Springfield hosts Amherst on Wednesday (7pm).
