TROY, N.Y. – Junior Alex Lamparski scored on a penalty stroke and Briana Earle stopped all six shots she faced to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over the University of Rochester in the Liberty League opener for both schools. Rensselaer improves to 6-2 overall while the Yellowjackets fall to 6-3.

Following a scoreless first half in which both goalies made one save; RPI was awarded a penalty stroke at 61:30 after a Rochester defender blocked a shot at the goal line with her body. Lamparski (Malvern, PA/Country Day School of the Sacred Heart), a defender, put the homestanding Red Hawks on the scoreboard when she sent a low shot into the left corner for her first goal of the season.

Earle (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), a freshman who is the reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week, made five second half saves for the victory in the cage. The shutout, her second of the season, improves her record to 5-2.

For Rochester, junior Danielle Pearson (Ilion, NY/Ilion Junior-Senior) finished with two saves. She is now 6-3.

The Red Hawks and Yellowjackets are right back in action on Saturday afternoon. Rensselaer hosts William Smith, the 11th-ranked team in the nation, while Rochester travels to Vassar. Both games are Liberty League contests and both begin at 2pm.
