TROY, N.Y. – Union College sophomore Katie McLean (Newton, MA/Newton North) scored in the 26th minute, and the Dutchwomen held on for the 1-0 victory over Rensselaer, this afternoon at Renwyck Field. With the win Union improves to 7-1-1 overall (2-0 Liberty League), while the Red Hawks fall to 5-4 on the season (0-2 Liberty).

Dutchwomen sophomore Caitlin O'Donnell (Hampden, MA/Wilbraham & Monson Academy) set up the goal when she played a ball over the top of the Rensselaer defense to McLean who ran on to the pass and finished past a dive from Red Hawks goaltender Meghan White (Kingston, NY/Kingston).

The Red Hawks applied pressure late in the first half, but were unable to solve Union netminder Abby Stohler (West Hartford, CT/Concard). The Dutchwomen finished the first with an 11-8 edge in total shots, with each team recording three shots on target.

The second half, which was played to an even draw, saw White (4-4) make a number of saves to keep the Red Hawks within striking distance. She finished with nine stops, while Stohler (4-1-1) ended up with five.

Offensively for Rensselaer, freshman midfielder Alexandra Fontanetta (Neshanic Station, NJ/Mount Saint Mary Academy) and senior Judy Kastner (West Islip, NY/West Islip) each had five shots. McLean had four shots, including three on target.

The Red Hawks return to action next Saturday, when they host Vassar College at Renwyck Field (2pm). The Dutchwomen travel to Utica on Wednesday (4pm).
