CLINTON, N.Y. - The Hamilton men's basketball team built a second half lead and got 21 points and 10 rebound from senior Harlee Wood (Clinton, MD) in beating Rensselaer, 67-60, at Scott Field House. With the win the Continentals improve to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in the Liberty League, while the Red Hawks move to 7-6 and 1-1 in the league.
An evenly played first half, saw RPI take a handful of brief leads, including a three point advantage (26-23) at 2:56 after senior
Sam Simmons made made one of two from the line. The game was tied at the half.
In the second, Hamilton jumped to a six point lead (37-31) less than three minutes in, on a three-pointer by Wood. RPI sophomore
DJ Blakemore (Bloomfield Township, MI) hit a triple to pull within four (44-40) at 13:17.
A free-throw from Continentals' sophomore Max Shillalies (Massapequa, NY) gave the hosts a 47-40 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining. RPI junior
Jeremy Colon (Manchester, NH) cut the deficit to three with 6:09 to go, but Hamilton was able to pull away. The Continentals never led by fewer than six in the final two minutes.
Simmons paced the Red Hawks with 21 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore
Mike Brion (Nashua, NH) recorded 13 points and Blakemore finished with seven points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Continentals were led by Woods' 21. Patrick Sullivan (Madison, NJ) added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Ephraim McDowell (Boston, MA) had 14 points.
The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, when they visit travel partner Vassar (8pm).
