TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore Amanda Trunzo scored four goals and #9 Dartmouth College went 6-of-9 on the power play to defeat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 8-4 in ECAC Women's Hockey action on Friday. The Big Green are now 13-6-2 and 10-3-2 in conference play while the Engineers drop to 12-11-3 overall and 7-6-2 in ECAC Hockey.

Rensselaer held a 1-0 lead after the opening period, but the Big Green came out strong, scoring four goals in the second stanza, all on the power play to take a 4-2 lead heading into the final period.

The Engineers found themselves down by a goal (2-1) after rookies Kelly Foley (Boston, MA/Tabor Academy) and Reagan Fischer (Irma, AB/Lloydminster Midget) scored within two minutes of one another, but Rensselaer freshman Jill Vandegrift (St. Paul, MN/Minnesota Thoroughbreds) found the back of the net to tie things at 2-2 with less than ten minutes remaining in the period.

Trunzo (Andover, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's School) put the visiting Big Green ahead by two with back-to-back extra-man goals; both assisted by seniors Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, CT/CT Polar Bears) and Shannon Bowman (Leamington, ON/Windsor Wild Cats) to close out the scoring in the frame.

Dartmouth continued to press in the final stanza as Fischer tallied her second of the game at 4:17 for a 5-2 advantage. Kennedy earned her third assist of the game after she intercepted the puck at mid-ice and passed it to Trunzo, who snuck by an RPI defender for a breakaway tally at 11:03.

Trunzo then added her fourth goal of the game minutes later on the power play to give Dartmouth a 6-2 advantage with just under five minutes remaining.

The Engineers continued to fight back and were able to cut the deficit to four goals at the 17:56 mark as senior captain Melissa Boik (Allen Park, MI/Michigan Capitals) passed the puck from the near point to junior Whitney Naslund (Bloomington, MN/Bloomington Jefferson) in the slot for the goal.

Despite a late tally by rookie Alisa Harrison (Vienna, VA/Washington Pride) with less than a minute remaining, Rensselaer was unable to close the gap as the Big Green held on for the victory.

Senior netminder Carli Clemis (Taber, AB/Midget AA Boys) stopped 23 shots to pick up the victory for Dartmouth. Sophomore Sonja van der Bliek (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros) shouldered the loss for the Engineers, making 29 saves before giving way to senior Emily Ford (Plymouth, MA/Tabor Academy) for the final 8:57. She had three saves. The Big Green also outshot RPI, 40-27, in the game.

Rensselaer returns to the ice tomorrow afternoon when they battle Harvard at 4pm at the Houston Field House. The Big Green head to Schenectady to play Union tomorrow, also at 4pm.
