TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer women's soccer team got an early goal from freshman Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) and limited Harwick College to just three shots on goal, to earn the 1-0 victory, at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Engineers improve to 5-11-1 overall, while the Hawks fall to 4-10-0.

Senior Briana Bet (Whitehall, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) sent a ball into the penalty area for Maguire who ripped a shot past Harwick sophomore goaltender Alyssa Rondo (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) for the only goal of the match in the 6th minute.

The Engineers continued to pressure in the first half, taking seven first-half shots, including a Nikki Goodsell (Danbury, CT/Danbury) drive that hit the crossbar. The Hawks finished the opening frame with an 8-7 shot advantage as well as a 5-0 corner kick edge, but could not find the target.

Despite a number of chances in the second half, the Hawks mustered just five attempts at goal, but none were able to find their way inside the frame. Hartwick's most dangerous chance came on a corner kick in the 56th minute, when freshman Emily Thorndike's (Dover, MA/Dover Sherborn) header clipped the top of the Rensselaer crossbar.

Rensselaer won the second-half shots battle, 8-5, with each team earning a pair of corner kicks. Freshman Melissa Pinsonnealt (Hudson, NY/Bishop Guertin) made three saves and senior Jaclyn Henry (West Warwick, RI/West Warwick) took over at halftime to combine for the shutout, while Rondo finished with nine stops at the other end.

The Engineers return to action on Saturday, when they close out their season at home against Utica (3pm).
