Swimming & Diving Drops Dual Meet to Ithaca

Bombers men take a narrow 126-117 victory; Ithaca women win, 153-87

TROY, N.Y. - Despite a number of solid performances, including multiple victory efforts from several competitors, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men' s and women's swimming & diving teams were unable to swim past Ithaca College, which captured the dual meet on both sides.  The Bombers men won by a narrow, 126-117 score, while the Ithaca women were victorious, 153-87.

Freshman Ben LeRose (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette), the conference's reigning Rookie of the Week, continued to dominate in the pool, capturing two individual wins and a relay victory.  He won the 200-freestyle in a time of 1:48.51 and then claimed first in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:03.70.  LeRose also helped the 400-medley relay team to a win with a time of 3:40.38.

Junior Julian Schott (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan), who also swam on the victorious 400-medley relay with LeRose, was Rensselaer's other big winner on the afternoon.  He won the 50-free (22.63) and then posted a victory in the 200-breaststroke (2:19.35). 

Also finishing well at the meet was senior captain Brian Roth (Columbia, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) who picked up a win in the 200-backstroke (2:02.13) and also helped the 400-medley relay team to a win.

For the women, freshman Mairead Lyons (Leominster, MA/Notre Dame Academy) won the 100-fly in a time of 1:01.69, while sophomore captain Carly Antonucci (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) was a close second in the event with a time of 1:01.90.

Freshman Tina Belletete (Winchendon, MA/Gardner), the women's Liberty League Rookie of the Week, was victorious in the 100-backstroke with at time of 1:02.80, while the 200-freestyle relay team won with a time of 1:48.09.

Junior diver Kelsey Manley (Southbury, CT/Sacred Heart) was second overall off the 1-meter board (200.55 points) and also finished runner-up in the 3-meter event (209.10).

Both squads are back in action on November 14th when they host Vassar at Robison Pool (1pm).
