TROY, N.Y. – Fourteen different players scored to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team to a 104-51 win over Paul Smith's College, in non-conference action at East Campus Arena on Sunday. The Engineers improve to 4-1 in the victory, while the Bobcats drop to 0-6 on the season.

RPI, which shot 46.2% from the field in the game, was paced by junior guard Mike Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who came off the bench to score 18 points. He went 7 of 11 from the field, nailing two shots from beyond the arc in the win.

Other contributors for the Engineers included senior Eric Anderson (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) and sophomore Matthew Pooley (Middletown, NY/Chapel Field Christian School). Anderson went 4 of 6 from the field and a game-best 3 for 4 from three-point range for 13 points, while Pooley added 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting.

Bobcats' freshman guard Steven Edwards (Queens, NY) led all scorers in the game, pouring in 21 points and a game-high eight rebounds. He also added three assists. Sophomore Michael Barber (Rochester, NY) also contributed significantly for Paul Smith's, tallying 12 points.

The homestanding Engineers came out dominant right from the start, taking a 59-24 lead after the first 20 minutes of the game. Edwards tried to pull the Bobcats back into the game, including an 8 for 10 effort at the free throw line, but the RPI offense proved to be too much as it cruised to the victory.

Rensselaer returns to action next weekend when it hosts the Tri-State Shootout at East Campus Arena. Saturday's action pits Southern Vermont against MCLA at 6pm, while RPI faces Albany College of Pharmacy at 8pm. Sunday's consolation and championship games will be at 1pm and 3pm, respectively.

For Paul Smith's, the team is back on the court on Tuesday against Clinton Community College at 7pm.
