PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Powered by two second period goals scored just eight seconds apart, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team defeated Brown University, 2-1 on Saturday. The Engineers are now 13-13-4 overall and 8-8-3 in conference play while the Bears fall to 9-15-1 overall and 5-12-1 in ECAC Hockey.

After a scoreless first period, which saw RPI post a 7-3 advantage in shots, the Engineers broke open the game with back-to-back goals from its top line of Allison Wright (Oakville, ON/Oakville Ice), Alisa Harrison (Vienna, VA/Washington Pride) and Whitney Naslund (Bloomington, MN/Bloomington Jefferson), who have now combined for 69 points in 31 games.

Wright got things going at 9:20 of the second stanza after she was able to coral the puck off a pass from Harrison and put it beyond the reach of Bears goalie Nicole Stock (Buffalo Grove, IL/ Connecticut Polar Bears).

Naslund, who was credited with the secondary assist, picked up her team-leading 12th tally of the year just eight seconds later after she collected the puck off a face-off win by Harrison for the goal over Stock's shoulder at 9:28.

Holding the Bears to just six shots through the first two periods, the Engineers were unable to stop the momentum shift in the final stanza as Brown controlled the shots with an 11-4 advantage and got a goal at the 4:23 mark from sophomore Jenna Dancewicz (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest).

Working the puck into the zone, Bears sophomore Samantha Stortini (Sudbury, ON/Sudbury Lady Wolves) was able to chip a shot high into traffic in front of the RPI net. Dancewicz found it mid-air and deflected it in for the power play marker.

Late in the game, Brown pulled Stock in favor of the extra-attacker. With 1:40 left on the clock, the Bears had five face-offs to the immediate left of Rensselaer goalie Sonja van der Bliek (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros), but the sophomore netminder proved up to the task as she turned aside ten shots to preserve the victory.

Stock finished with 23 saves in goal for Brown, while van der Bliek turned aside 15 of the 16 shots she faced to improve to 13-12-4 on the season.

Rensselaer, which secured a playoff spot in Friday's tie over Yale, concludes its regular season schedule at home against Cornell and Colgate on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (4pm). Friday's game will be Pink at the Rink night, while Saturday's contest will honor the Engineers' six seniors.
