TROY, N.Y. – Rookie forward Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ/Randoph) scored a goal in each half to propel the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Saint Joseph College in the final game of the 2009 RPI Classic on Sunday. The Engineers improve to 2-1 on the season while the Blue Jays drop to 0-2.

Maguire opened the scoring in the first half, pushing the homestanding Engineers ahead just 9:21 into the contest. Picking up a loose ball off a deflection at the top of the penalty box, Maguire sent a shot sailing into the top right corner of the net.

Rensselaer moved ahead by a two-goal margin less than five minutes later as freshman Nikki Goodsell (Danbury, CT/Danbury), a midfielder, drove a cross from junior Tracy Breslin (Latham, NY/Shaker) past Blue Jays goalie Cait Witham (Prospect, CT/Woodland) at 9:21.

Mid-way through the first half, senior captain Jacquelyn Garlasco (Paramus, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) gave RPI a 3-0 lead after she converted a corner by Goodsell into the upper right corner of the net at 29:32.

The Engineers dominated ball control in the second half of action, holding a 13-1 advantage in shots and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

The final scoring of the game came off the foot of Maguire, who ducked around a defender and sent a hard shot into the bottom right corner past a diving Witham at 76:58.

Senior Jaclyn Henry (West Warwick, RI/West Warwick), who was forced to make just one save on the afternoon, earned her second victory of the season for the Engineers. Witham stopped 13 shots in the Blue Jays goal.

Rensselaer held the advantage in shots for the game, 22-5, and led in corner kicks, 5-0.

Named to the All-Tournament team were Maguire, sophomore defender Tonya Frank (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) and sophomore midfielder Catherine Harvey (Portland, OR/Liberty) from Rensselaer and sophomore midfielder Stacey Rutledge (Meriden, CT), senior Emily Johnson (Avon, CT), also a midfielder, and senior defender Susie McKenna (Southbury, CT) from Saint Joseph.
