NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Samantha MacLean broke at 3-3 tie late in the third period, scoring at 19:27 of the final stanza as Yale University defeated visiting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 4-3 in ECAC Hockey action on Saturday. The Bulldogs improve to 6-10-3 overall and 4-7-1 in conference play, while the Engineers fall to 8-10-5 and 5-4-3 in the ECACH.

Facing a 3-2 deficit after the first two periods of play, Rensselaer rookie Clare Padmore (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros) knotted the game at 3-all in the final period with her first career goal, but the Bulldogs regained the lead less than a minute later as Samantha MacLean (Mississauga, ON/Holy Name of Mary) tallied at 19:27 to seal the victory.

Yale opened the scoring in the first period as sophomore Aleca Hughes (Westwood, MA/Hotchkiss) put one past Engineers' netminder Sonja van der Bliek (Toronto, ON/Toronto Jr. Aeros) at 13:55.

The Engineers pulled things even late in the frame when sophomore Alisa Harrison (Vienna, VA/Washington Pride) connected on a pass by senior Allison Wright (Oakville, ON/Oakville Ice) at 18:16. Sophomore Katie Daniels (Rockton, IL/Chicago Mission) was credited with the second assist on the goal.

Sophomore Becky Mantell (Princeton, NJ/Lawrenceville) wasted little time in giving Yale the advantage once more, scoring less than a minute after the RPI goal to give the homestanding Bulldogs a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

In the second stanza, despite a 21-7 shot disadvantage through the first 20 minutes, Yale once again found the back of the net as junior Bray Ketchum (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich Academy) put in the Bulldogs' third goal of the game just 4:41 into the stanza on the power play.

RPI continued to fight and it paid off when senior Allysen Weidner (Wichita, KS/Shattuck St. Mary's) cut the deficit to one-goal for the Engineers at 7:57 to make it a 3-2 game after two periods. Weidner was assisted by junior Kendra Dunlop (Granum, AB/Warner Hockey School) and freshman Andie Le Donne (Toronto, ON/Durham Lightning).

For Yale, junior goalie Jackee Snikeris (Downingtown, PA/Taft School) stopped 38 shots for the victory. The Engineers, who held a 41-18 advantage in shots, saw van der Bliek make 14 saves in the loss.

Rensselaer is back in action next weekend when it travels to Dartmouth and Harvard on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (4pm). Yale is also on the ice next weekend, hosting Clarkson and St. Lawrence at Ingalls Rink.
