POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Propelled by two goals from senior captain Carolyn Demougeot, the Vassar women's soccer team defeated Rensselaer, 2-1, in a Liberty League contest at Gordon Field. With the win, the Brewers improve to 9-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the Liberty League, while the Engineers fall to 4-4-1 (1-2-0 Liberty).

Demougeot put the Brewers on the board in the 20th minute with her 25th career goal. Sophomore Keiko Kurita recovered her own blocked shot and threaded a pass across the top of the box to Demougeot who beat two defenders to the ball and knocked a sliding shot past the oncoming keeper and off the right post for the goal.

The Brewers scored the second goal of the half in the 41st minute as senior defender Elysa Greenberg lofted a pass in into the box. Kurita headed the ball upwards over the keeper and Demougeot closed in to put the loose ball into the empty net.

After several opportunities in the second half, RPI narrowed the Brewer lead with a goal in the 76th minute. Freshman Sara Rothschild intercepted a backwards pass to Vassar goalkeeper Lexi Hutton and slipped past Hutton to tap her fifth goal of the season into the open net.

The Brewers withstood an RPI offensive frenzy in the final minutes and held on for the 2-1 win. The Engineers outshot the Brewers 6-4 in the second stanza and 11-10 in the game.

Hutton made four saves to boost her record to 7-1. RPI's Stephanie Vargas (4-4-1) made three saves in the loss.

The Brewers take on William Smith College on the road Friday (4pm) and Hamilton on Saturday (2pm). The Engineers travel to play the same Liberty League opponents, facing Hamilton on Friday (4pm) and William Smith on Saturday (2pm).
