ONEONTA, N.Y. - Junior Julie Kessler scored in the 32nd minute and the goal stood as Hartwick College defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 1-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday at Elmore Field.  The victory moves the Hawks to 6-8-2 on the season, while the Engineers slip to 4-10-2 overall.

Senior Briana Crow picked up the lone assist on the tally after sending the ball in on a cross to another player up front.  Her shot missed the forward player, deflected in past RPI's Stephanie Vargas for the 1-0 advantage.

The Engineers continued to press despite the deficit, gaining a 7-5 advantage in shots in the first half of action, but could not solve Hawks' junior Alyssa Rondo.

Rensselaer came out strong in the second half, peppering the Hartwick goal as Rondo stopped shots from junior Catherine Harvey, rookie Rachel Tietzen and sophomore Shannon Maguire in the first seven minutes of the stanza.

Despite a 10-1 advantage in shots for the half, including a header shot by freshman Sara Rothschild in the 87th minute which was stopped by Rondo, the Engineers could not net the equalizer.

Rondo finished with eight saves in the contest, while Vargas had two saves in the first half.  Freshman Deanna Amoia came on in relief in the second half, stopping one shot.

Rensselaer is back in action on Saturday, hosting Ithaca in the 2010 season finale at East Campus Stadium (1pm).  Hartwick wraps up their season on Saturday, hosting Hamilton (1pm).
