GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior BreLynn Nasypany (Herkimer/Herkimer, N.Y.) scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win for the No. 14 William Smith soccer team over visiting Rensselaer in a Liberty League match played at Cozzens Field this afternoon. The Herons improve to 9-2-2 overall and 3-0-2 in league play. The Engineers are now 4-6-1 and 1-4-0 in the league.

With the majority of the game taking place in the middle third of the field, Nasypany broke though in the 60th minute. Junior Leslie Carrese (Mount Hebron/Ellicott City, Md.) sent a pass from the right side of the field to find Nasypany about five yards out in front of the goal. Nasypany drilled a shot past the Rensselaer first-year keeper Stephanie Vargas and into the right side of the goal.

Rensselaer had a scoring chance in the 80th minute, but a shot by sophomore Shannon Maguire went wide of the goal. William Smith had a couple chances late in the game to score again. In the 82nd minute, junior Chelsea England (Vestal/Apalachin, N.Y.) took a corner kick for the Herons, and sent the ball into the box. Two of the Herons were in position to head the ball into the goal, but Vargas punched it away before they had the chance. With 3:58 remaining, sophomore Kelsey Hill (Horace Greeley/Chappaqua, N.Y.) sent a crossing pass from the right side to Nasypany whose header sailed just left of the goal.

William Smith enjoyed a 10-2 advantage in shots and a 4-0 lead in corner kicks. Junior goalie Amanda Davis (Roxbury/Landing, N.J.) earned her fourth shutout this season. Vargas finished with six saves.
