Women's Hoops Advances To League Final with 67-55 Win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Graduate student Whitney Coleman (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Etiwanda) scored a game-high 24 points, leading the Rensselaer women's basketball team to a 67-55 victory over St. Lawrence, in the semifinal round of the Liberty League Tournament. With the win, the Engineers improve to 16-10 and advance to tomorrow's Championship Game (3pm).

Rensselaer with face the winner of the Skidmore/Hamilton semifinal, with the winner of that contest earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

The Saints (18-9) were led offensively by junior Abby Stanton (Avon, NY/Avon Central), who finished with a team-best 16. Coleman, who recorded her 11th double-double of the season by totaling 14 rebounds, is now five points shy of the all-time scoring record at Rensselaer. She also had four assists and a steal.

RPI built a three-point lead (30-27) at the half, holding St. Lawrence to 37.9% shooting from the field and 0 for 4 from beyond the arc through 20 minutes.

Sophomore Nicole Monroe (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) dropped in 17 points off the bench for the Engineers, who finished with a 27-9 edge in bench scoring, including 21-5 in the second half. Rensselaer outscored the Saints, 37-28, in the second half to bring the game to its final margin.

Senior Amanda Brophy (Scituate, MA/Milton Academy) chipped in with seven points and three rebounds, while graduate student Ellen High (Plaistow, NH/Timberlane Regional) added six points and five boards. Sophomore Iris Santoni (Florence, MA/Northampton) recorded 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals for St. Lawrence.
