CANTON, N.Y. - The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team kept its undefeated streak alive in the Newell Field House by shutting out Rensselaer, 9-0 in a Liberty League match. The Scarlet and Brown advance to a 7-0 overall mark, while the Engineers drop to 0-2 in the spring semester.
The Saints stood out in doubles competition. In the number one match, the tandem of junior Stephanie Finn and Casey Gilman posted an 8-1 win against
Christine Roe and
Jess Sitzer. Senior Chelsea Hubbell and first-year Shannon Murphy followed suit in the number two spot, defeating
Kim Viles and
Hetal Baman, 8-3. Sophomore Barry Edgar and first-year Elizabeth Geer finished out the doubles by shutting out
Zosia Casterline and
Brianna Dickie, 8-0 at the number three position.
St. Lawrence saw all of its players defeat their opponents in two sets. Finn handled Roe in the number one match, 6-0, 6-0, while Gilman impressed at number two with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Sitzer. Hubbell topped Casterline, 6-4, 6-2 in the number three match, as Murphy won 6-1, 6-2 against Dickie.
Geer and sophomore Sara Willet stood out in the final two singles matches. Geer shut out Baman, 6-0, 6-0, while Willet dropped Viles, 6-1, 6-1.
