SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Sophomore Adam Updegrove (Carson City, NV/Carson) scored the eventual game-winning goal 6:54 into the second half to lift #21 Rensselaer to a 2-1 men's soccer victory over Cazenovia at the Union College Classic at College Park.

It became 2-1 RPI at 51:54 when Updegrove headed in a free kick from the left side by Benjamin Poser (Scotts Valley, CA/Scotts Valley). The Engineers improved to 2-0 on the young season while the Wildcats are now 0-3.

The Engineers had a great opportunity early in the contest. Bryce Hutchinson (Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) had a strong low drive headed for the right corner but Cazenovia keeper Sam Cimino (Syracuse,

Zach Fane
NY) dove and smothered the attempted score right before the goal line.

RPI opened the scoring with four minutes left in the first half. Sophomore Zach Fane (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) shot it inside the right post off a pass from Matt Koliopoulos (Franklin, MA/Franklin). Cazenovia tied it 2:32 later. Taras Stashkiv (Syracuse, NY) was open directly in front and went high over the keeper for his second of the season.

Updergrove had a solid opportunity with a header in front but Cimino was right there to make the stop at 73:13.

RPI had a 17-3 shot advantage while the Engineers had seven corners to the Wildcats' three. Cimino made four saves for Cazenovia, while Alex Penny (Northport, NY/Northport) did not have to make any save for RPI.
