Bryce Merriam stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced but it wasn't quite enough as the #20 Rensselaer men's hockey team was defeated by Ferris State, 2-0, in a non-league contest. RPI, which lost to the Bulldogs on Friday night (4-0), is now 1-3-0. Ferris State improves to 4-0-0.
Merriam (Bethel Park, PA / Topeka RoadRunners) finished with five saves in the first period, 12 in the second and 11 in the third period in seeing his record drop to 1-2-0. CJ Motte stopped all 26 shots he faced on the other end, including 13 in the third period.
The Bulldogs scored the only goal they needed just 55 seconds into the contest when Nate Milam tallied unassisted. Garrett Thompson added an empty net goal with only eight seconds left in the game, just the third alltime between the two schools. Ferris State has won each of them.
RPI is next in action on Friday night when it travels to nationally-ranked Notre Dame for a 7:35pm faceoff. The game can be heard live on WRPI, 91.5 FM, and wrpi.org.
