ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Rensselaer dominated possession throughout but just could not find the back of the net and the Engineers were forced to settle for a 0-0 tie with Bard in a critical Liberty League match.  RPI is now 6-4-4 overall and 2-3-3 in the league, while Bard is now 4-11-1 and 0-6-1.

With the tie, Rensselaer's Liberty League playoff hopes were severly hampered.  The Engineers needed to beat Bard in what was their last conference game of the season, then get some favorable results in other conference games to earn the fourth and final seed in the league standings. Now they need a great deal of scenarios to take place.

Rensselaer outshot Bard, 5-0, in the first half, then really turned up the pressure in the second half, producing nine more shots.  As the game wore on the Engineers were urgently pressing forward and peppering Bard senior keeper Deven Connelly (High Falls, NY) with shots.

Meanwhile, Bard was being held without a single shot all day long. 

In the end, the Engineers outshot the Raptors 21-0, collected 10 corners to Bard's none, and created several scoring opportunities down the stretch off set pieces in both overtimes. The Engineers' best opportunity came with just over five minutes left in the second overtime, when junior Adam Updegrove (Carson City, NV) collected a loose ball in front after a corner kick and struck a hard shot to the far post from 12 yards out. Connelly made a diving save, pushing the shot just wide with his right hand.

Connelly made eight saves for the Raptors. Rob Dewald (Arlington, VA) played all 110 minutes but didn't face a shot for RPI, which hosts a non-conference game against Williams on Sunday at 1:30pm.
