Engineers men fall, 196-104; RPI women lose, 183-111

TROY, N.Y. – Senior Carly Antonucci notched three individual victories and multiple other swimmers had success, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams could not get past a strong Ithaca College squad in their home opener at Robison Pool.  The Bombers men posted a 196-104 victory over the Engineers, while the Ithaca women were victorious, 183-111.
 
Antonucci (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) claimed victory in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:09.58 and also won the 200-breast with a mark of 2:31.12.  She also won the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:17.79.
 
Also having success for the Engineers women was junior Mairead Lyons (Leominster, MA/Notre Dame), who won the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:01.01.  She also notched a pair of second place finishes in the 1000-freestyle (11:49.28) and the 100-free (57.08).
 
Junior Christina Provenza (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) won the 200-fly with a time of 2:17.08 and also helped the 200-free relay team to victory with a mark of 1:47.07.  Other members of the relay team included Lyons, junior Sara Jeffrey (Ashland, MA/Ashland) and rookie Aubrey Kalashian (Greenwich, CT/Convent of the Sacred Heart).
 
On the men's side, junior Nate Hosking (Keene, NH/Keene) won the 1000-free for the second straight week with a time of 10:12.18.  He was also runner-up in the 500-free with a mark of 4:57.02.
 
Graduate student Alex Updegrove (Carson City, NV/Carson) won the 100-backstroke with a time of 56.79, while rookie Michael Rizzo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) was the winner in the 200-fly with a mark of 2:01.07.
 
In the diving events, sophomore Miguel Hummel (Pittsburgh, PA/Fordham Prep.) was second off the 3-meter with a score of 274.25 points.  He also finished runner-up with 266.85 points in the 1-meter event.
 
Both squads return to the pool on November 12, hosting Vassar at Robison Pool.  Meet time is set for 1pm.
