MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury saw its five-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to Rensselaer (4-6-1) 1-0 in overtime on Dragone Field.  The game-winner came just 3:12 into overtime when leading scorer Sara Rothschild netted her sixth of the season. Rothschild drove to the goal from the right and then beat Middlebury keeper Jocelyn Remmert with a quick shot to the short side for the game-winner.

The first half was played relatively even, with the Rensselaer holding a slim 9-7 shots advantage. Middlebury turned up the pressure in the second half with some solid scoring opportunities.

After a nice cross by Claire Nishioka in the 52nd minute, Amy Schlueter had a shot on a rebound but the ball deflected off a Rensselaer defender and was cleared. Lucy Wagner sent a hard cross in from the right side in the 60th minute, with Rachel Madding just missing an attempt on goal. The Panther's best chance may have come in the 67th minute when Schlueter played a through ball to Scarlett Kirk who was one-on-one. Engineer keeper Deanna Amoia came out to challenge the pass and slid to deflect the ball away.

Rensselaer came back with some pressure following Middlebury's opportunities, but could not score as the game headed into overtime.

Stephanie Vargas finished with four saves in 60 minutes for Rensselaer, while Amoia earned the win with a pair of saves. Remmert finished with five stops for the Panthers as her team held a 14-13 shots advantage.

Middlebury is back in action on Saturday at NESCAC-rival Hamilton, while the Engineers return to the pitch on October 14 & 15 when they host St. Lawrence and Clarkson, respectively.
