Engineers men win 173-103; Women beat Brewers, 174-126

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams had outstanding efforts on Saturday with a dual meet sweep of Vassar College at Robison Pool.  Led by multiple victory efforts on both sides, the men won by a 173-103 margin, while the women were victorious, 174-126.
 
On the men's side, junior Ben LeRose (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) picked up four wins, including two individual victories.  He won the 100-freestyle in a time of 49.52 and claimed the win in the 100-butterfly with a time of 54.07. 
 
LeRose also helped the 200-medley relay team to victory with a time of 1:38.95 and the 200-freestyle relay to a win with a mark of 1:31.31.  Other members of the 200-medley relay included graduate student Alex Updegrove (Carson City, NV/Carson City), senior Chris Hall (Villanova, PA/Friends' Central School) and junior Dan Messmer (Medford, NJ/Shawnee).
 
On the 200-free relay team with LeRose was Updegrove, Messmer and sophomore Maruti Kolluru (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga Senior).
 
Updegrove was also an individual winner in the 50-free (22.38) and the 200-backstroke (2:05.07).  Also performing well for the men was rookie Michael Rizzo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), who won the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:04.79 and was victorious in the 200-fly (2:01.64).
 
Senior Carly Antonucci (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) led the effort on the women's side as she won the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:09.43 and also picked up wins in the 200-breast (2:30.88) and the 200-IM (2:18.13).
 
Antonucci also helped the 200-medley relay team to victory with a time of 1:54.83.  Other members of the relay included senior Eva Skorupka (North Andover, MA/Central Catholic), junior Christina Provenza (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) and junior Kathleen McDowell (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac).
 
Provenza was also a winner in the 200-fly (2:16.15) and helped the 200-free relay team to victory with a time of 1:44.20.  Also on the relay was McDowell, junior Sara Jeffrey (Ashland, MA/Ashland) and junior Mairead Lyons (Leominster, MA/Notre Dame Academy).
 
Junior Tina Belletete (Winchendon, MA/Gardner) also had an outstanding effort, winning the 200-back (2:14.33), the 500-free (5:24.36) and the 1000-free (11:01.75).
 
Both squads return to action on Sunday as they head to Hartwick for a 1pm dual meet against the Hawks in Oneonta.
