TROY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly men's awards and for the second straight week, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes
Chase Polacek and
Allen York have been selected. Polacek was once again named the MLX Skates Player of the Week, while York earned MLX Skates Goaltender of the Week honors after the pair led the ninth-ranked Engineers to victories over Brown and then top-ranked Yale last weekend.
A senior from Edina, Minn., Polacek recorded five points (2 goals, 3 assist) in the Engineers' wins over Brown (3-0) and Yale (5-2) on Friday and Saturday, respectively. He notched the eventual game-winning goal to go along with an assist against the Bears, before dropping a goal and two assists on the Bulldogs in the 34th Annual Big Red Freakout!
Polacek has notched a team-best 39 points (16 goals, 23 assists) through 26 games this season, including seven power-play and one short-handed tally. A former standout at the Academy of Holy Angels, he has also recorded seven game-winning goals, including four straight from Jan. 14 - Jan. 28.
Fifth nationally in points per game (1.50), Polacek leads the country in game-winning goals, is 12th in goals per game (0.62) and 10th in assists per contest (0.88). Through 14 ECAC Hockey contests, he leads the league in points (22), goals (9), assists (13), power-play points (11) and game-winning goals (4).
York, a junior from Wetaskiwin, Alb., earned the victory in both games last week, posting a 1.00 goals against average, while stopping 74 of the 76 shots he faced for a .974 save percentage. He opened the weekend by equaling a season-high of 36 saves in RPI's 3-0 shutout of Brown. York then topped that mark the following night, turning away 38 of 40 shots in the team's 5-2 Big Red Freakout! victory over Yale.
On the season, York is 16-6-3 with a 1.86 goal against average and a .932 save percentage, while starting 25 of 26 games. A former member of the Camrose Kodiaks, he has recorded two shutouts, while logging 95.3% of the time between the pipes for the Engineers.
Third in the country in goals against average, York is also seventh in save percentage and 15th in winning percentage (.700). The starter in all 14 of the Engineers' ECAC Hockey games so far this season, he is sixth in the league in both goals against average (2.08) and save percentage (.928).
Rensselaer (17-6-3; 9-5-0 ECAC Hockey) is back in action this weekend, traveling to Quinnipiac and Princeton on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (4pm), respectively.
