TROY, N.Y. – Senior Courtney Chadburn buried the only goal of the game in the 61st minute to lift the Castleton State women's soccer team to a, 1-0, victory over Rensselaer, this evening in the season opener for both teams at East Campus Stadium. With the win the Spartans open at 1-0, while the Engineers begin the 2011, 0-1.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes in which Rensselaer carried play and out-shot its opponents, 7-2, Chadburn (North Clarendon, VT/Mill River Union) picked up a loose ball and ripped a shot from the outside the box, into the top left corner of the net for the lone goal of the game.

RPI had a number of chances to find the equalizer, including an attempt by sophomore Sara Rothschild (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), that rang off the near post in the 80th minute. Junior Nikki Goodsell (Danbury, CT/Danbury) then saw the final of her three shots of the evening sail high and wide as the final horn sounded.

Rothschild recorded two of her game-high seven shots in the opening 10 minutes as the Engineers held play in the Castleton State half for the early stages of the contest. Seven of RPI's nine corner kicks came in the first 32 minutes of play.

Freshman Taylor Korytko (Tampa, FL/Hamilton) and sophomore Giana Abballe (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) put together back-to-back chances in the 34th and 35th minutes, respectively, but were unable to beat Castleton State junior goaltender Ericka Davis (Cambridge, VT/Lamoille Union), who made eight saves to earn the shutout.

Engineers' freshman netminder Marisa Sciolino (Pembroke Pines, FL/West Broward) made three stops in her first collegiate start.

Rensselaer returns to the pitch on Saturday (12pm) and Sunday (12pm), when it faces ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins University and Eastern University, respectively, at the Johns Hopkins Invitational in Baltimore, Md.
