TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Meghan Allen (Big Flats, NY/Corning East) slotted home the game-winning goal in the 100th minute to lift the Buffalo State women's soccer team to a, 2-1, overtime victory over Rensselaer in the final game of the Rensselaer Invitational, this afternoon at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Bengals improve to 3-2 overall, while the Engineers drop to 1-3-1.

Buffalo State junior striker Melissa Mahoney (Poughkeepsie, NY/Ketcham) slid pass across an open Rensselaer goal mouth to Allen, who scored from point blank range to give the visiting Bengals win the final minute of overtime. The goal was Allen's third of the season.

The Bengals threatened to score the game's first goal in seventh minute. Senior Tina Boberskyj (Rochester, NY/Greece-Odyssey) took a shot from inside the box that beat RPI sophomore goalie Stephanie Vargas (Fogelsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), but classmate Brittany Van Grouw (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) was there to clear the ball off the goal line.

Sophomore Sara Rothschild (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) gave Rensselaer a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute, after receiving a pass at midfield and taking off up the center of the pitch. With only one defender to beat, she cut to the right, before finishing into the top right corner of the net for her second goal in as many days.

The Bengals answered in the 25th minute, when sophomore Shaunta Pyles (Hilton, NY/Hilton) lofted a ball over the head of Vargas and into the net from 35 yards out. The tally, which was her first of the season, knotted the game at 1-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Linda Banfield (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), who made eight saves, including a several crucial stops at the end of regulation, earned the win. Vargas (1-1) finished with four saves for the Engineers.

The Engineers are back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Ithaca for a non-conference affair (4pm). Buffalo State hosts Medaille on Wednesday (4pm).
