POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College women's soccer team took the lead on three occasions but Rensselaer took the lead for the final time with the game's final two goals for a 4-3 win on Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field.

Both teams put forth an impressive offensive display all game, but in the 83rd minute RPI forward Giana Abballe broke the stalemate with a hard shot from the right side of the area, ending the see-saw scoring run of both teams.

The Brewers (5-4, 0-1 Liberty) will travel to Clarkson University this Friday, September 30, for a game at 4:00 p.m. RPI (3-4-1, 1-0 Liberty) faces Rochester Institute of Technology on the road this Friday at 4:00 p.m.

Vassar started the second half with a goal in the 52nd minute for a 3-2 lead as senior captain Alix Zongrone scored the header off a corner by freshman Sarah Bourenane. RPI managed to claw their way back again, as a goal in the 56th minute by Rothschild brought the teams level. Despite fine offensive efforts and a 4-0 advantage in second-half corner kicks, the Brewers could not find another breakthrough, and the scoreline held at 3-3 until RPI's game-winner by Aballe.

The Brewers were on the offensive from the starting whistle, and their first goal came after only two minutes, when sophomore forward Sheeva Seyfi struck the ball into the back of the net off a cross from sophomore Kylie Ladenberger. However, the one-goal lead didn't hold for long, as RPI responded with a goal of their own less than three minutes later.

Vassar refused to let the tie stand, and the offense struck again in the seventh minute, as Ladenberger netted her first goal with a shot to the far post from an assist by Seyfi.

The Brewers held the lead up until the 22nd minute, when RPI striker Sara Rothschild made a run past the defense and scored from the right side of the goal. The two teams played physical, aggressive offense, collecting two corners a piece, but neither could find a breakthrough, and the first half ended in a stalemate.

Junior keeper Ali Higgins had three saves in the loss. RPI keeper Stephanie Vargas made four saves to earn the win. Rothschild of RPI led all scorers with two goals.
