TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper Craig Bennett made six saves to earn the shutout and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team went on to tie Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), 0-0, in Liberty League action at Renwyck Field. With the draw, the Engineers are now 4-2-2 overall (0-1-1 Liberty), while the Tigers move to 4-3-2 (1-0-1 Liberty).

Bennett (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) made a handful of big saves down the stretch to keep the game scoreless, including a pair of stops in overtime. He denied senior David Vogt (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) in the 97th minute and made a finger-tip save on sophomore Andy Fleckenstein (Farmington, NY/Victor) in the 108th minute to preserve the shutout.

The Engineers best chance to find the scoresheet came in the 107th minute of play, when freshman Matt Koziol (Poughkeepsie, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) chested a ball down in the RIT penalty area and right-footed a shot that was stopped by Tigers sophomore goalie Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park), before it was cleared out of danger.

A scoreless first half saw the visitors take a 6-2 advantage in shots, including a 1-0 edge in shots on goal, as Vogt had an opportunity that was handed by Bennett.

The second half saw the Engineers come up with a pair of scoring chances, by shots by Mike Birk (Albertson, NY/Mineola) and freshman Zach Dugas (Deerfield, NH/Concord) were off the mark.

Bennett (3-2-2) finished with six saves to pick up his fourth shutout of the season, while Conway (4-3-2), who also earned his fourth shutout, needed to make just one stop.

Rensselaer returns to the pitch tomorrow afternoon, when it hosts 18th-ranked Hobart at Renwyck Field (2pm). The Tigers travel to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore (2pm).
