BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore Brooke Van Baush scored the game-tying goal in the 68th minute to earn the Rensselaer women's soccer team a, 1-1, draw with Eastern University, this afternoon in the Johns Hopkins Invitational. With the tie, the Engineers are now 0-2-1 on the season, while the Eagles move to 1-0-1.

Eastern junior striker Kelsey Doutrich (York Springs, PA/Bermudian Springs) broke a scoreless draw in the 50th minute, following a first half that saw just one total shot attempt – a try by Doutrich that sailed over the crossbar. After a ball was played into the RPI penalty area, it was deflected to Doutrich, who left-footed it home from 12 yards out, into the side-netting.

Rensselaer answered 18 minutes later on the first collegiate tally by Van Baush (Loganville, GA/Grayson). A failed Eagles clearing attempt fell to Van Baush at the top of the box. She then ripped a shot into the top left corner, knotting the game at 1-1.

The Eagles had a chance to end the game in waning seconds of the first overtime, but RPI sophomore goaltender Deanna Amoia (Tappan, NY/Tappan Zee) was able to keep senior Charlotte Laurie's (Huntingdon, NY/Huntingdon) shot out of the net.

RPI then had two opportunities turned away in the 106th minute, as attempts by Van Baush and classmate Giana Abballe (Old Tappan, NY/Northern Valley Regional) were both turned away by Eastern junior keeper Alisia Goodman (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata).

In the final minute of overtime, it appeared as if Doutrich had scored the game-winning goal, but it was determined that she interfered with Amoia's ability to make a play on the ball.

Amoia (0-0-1) finished with three saves, while Goodman came up with four stops at the other end of the pitch.

The Engineers are back action next weekend, when they host the Rensselaer Invitational at East Campus Stadium. RPI will take on Simmons College on Saturday (3pm) and Buffalo State on Sunday (3pm).
