Cortland State Wins 2012 RPI Invitational

Engineers finish second of six teams at this year's meet

TROY, N.Y. - The Cortland State women's swimming & diving team won the 2012 RPI Invitational, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Robison Pool on Saturday.  The Red Dragons compiled 649 points, to hold off the host Engineers, who had 457 points.  It marks the seventh meet win in the last 11 years for Cortland State.
 
Among the outstanding performances for the Red Dragons included rookie Krista Caputo (Staten Island, NY), who won the 500-freestyle in a time of 5:27.25.   She also posted a win in the 200-free (2:03.17) and helped the 400-free relay team to victory with a time of 3:52.54.
 
Sophomore Sarah Culmo (West Islip, NY) also had an outstanding afternoon, winning the 50-free with a time of 25.47 and the 100-free with a time of 55.99.  She also helped the 400-medley relay team to a win with a time of 4:10.59.
 
Rounding out the solid performances of the afternoon were RPI junior Tina Belletete (Winchendon, MA) and senior captain Carly Antonucci (Long Valley, NJ).  Belletete won the 1000-free with a meet record time of 10:59.37 and also claimed victory in the 200-butterfly (2:14.32).  Antonucci won the 200-Individual Medley with a mark of 2:18.26 and claimed th2 200-breast title (2:30.82).
