TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) scored just three minutes into the game and the Engineers controlled the contest from that point on, defeating Clarkson University, 2-0, in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Stadium. With the victory RPI is now unbeaten in six straight games (3-0-3) and improves to 8-3-3 overall. Rensselaer is now 4-1-1 in the league, which is good enough for first place. Clarkson falls to 1-9-3 and 1-4-1.

The Engineers' quick strike came in the third minute by junior Joey Eilert (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley), who headed in a cross from Matt Koziol (Poughkeepsie, NY/F.D. Roosevelt) from five yards. For Eilert, the goal was the first of his career, while the assist was the first for Koziol, a sophomore. He does have nine career goals.

Adam Updegrove (Carson City, NV/Carson City) gave the Engineers a 2-0 lead four minutes into the second half when he collected a loose ball at 13 yards and scored into the left side of the net for his second of the year.

Sophomore Rob Dewald (Arlington, VA/Washington-Lee) earned the victory with two saves. Clarkson senior goalkeeper Saverino Spagnolo (Ottawa, ON/St. Pius X) stopped three saves in the loss.

Rensselaer held a 17-4 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Engineers host Skidmore College on Wednesday at 7pm, while Clarkson's next contest is also Wednesday when it faces SUNY Canton at 7pm.
