SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Rensselaer men's soccer team scored once in each half and sophomore Rob Dewald stopped all four shots he faced and the Engineers defeated Christopher Newport, 2-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. RPI advances to face Swarthmore on Sunday at 5pm.

Junior Joey Eilert gave the Engineers the lead when his left wing shot from 22 yards out found the goal. Classmate Ryan Gracy added insurance in the waning minutes, on an assist from freshman Vince Bennett, and RPI improved to 10-5-6.

Dewald had three saves in the first half and one in the second. Sean Killion stopped two shots for the Captains, who end the season with a 15-4-2 record.

RPI had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks, while Christopher Newport had a 14-9 edge in shots, including 9-4 in the second half.

Rensselaer's second round game against Swarthmore is a rematch of a September 8 match that was played in Troy. The Garnet won that game, 2-0.
