ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior Grace Tilton finished a school-best 13th to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals at Genesee Valley Park. Classmate
Patrick Cavanaugh was the top Engineers' finisher on the men's side placing 38th, as the men took eighth as a team.
Tilton (Concord, NH/Concord) ran the 6k women's event in 22:25.5 (a 6:01 minute/mile pace), while classmate Meredith Mayes (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) took 33rd in 22:57.1. The pair led the Engineers to their top 10 finish in strong field of 39 teams.
The men's team, which was led by Cavanaugh's 26:19.7 time in the 44-team, 8k event, saw senior
Patrick Condon (Reading, MA/Reading Memorial) and junior
Sean Quinn (Brookline, NH/Hollis Brookline) cross just two places apart, at 42nd and 44th place, respectively. Condon ran a 26:25.3, while Quinn was just fractions of a second behind at 26:25.9.
Qualifying members of the cross country teams will compete at the 2012 NCAA Championship, which takes place next Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana.
