Amanda Lynch (Middletown, NY / J. Burke Catholic) put Rensselaer ahead by four at halftime.
Sage gained the lead 2:14 into the second half, 31-30, and increased it to six points on a Lea McClain (Schenectady, NY / Mohonasen) basket 5:30 into the frame. A layup by Wetmore at 11:55 gave the Engineers the lead back, 40-39, and RPI did not relinquish its advantage from that point, though there were two ties.
Lynch finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Clough had 11 points and six rebounds. She also had five steals.
McClain, a sophomore guard, led Sage with 13 points, while junior Chelsea Martin (Chestertown, NY / North Warren Central) had 11 points. Sophomore Amie Jefferson (Albany, NY / Colonie Central) added eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
