Amanda Lynch, and the Rensselaer women's basketball team defeated Bates, 66-53 in the Williams Holiday Classic. The Engineers are now 5-2, while the Bobcats are 2-5.
Lynch, a sophomore, finished with 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting with three rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes. She had a team-high 11 points in RPI's opening round game, a loss to the host Ephs.
RPI, which improved to 5-2 with the win over the Bobcats, went on a 12-0 run midway through the first half to turn a 15-15 game into a 27-15 lead with 5:43 to go in the frame. Junior
Zysnia Osepa keyed the push with a pair of baskets and an assist. The Engineers kept its lead to at least seven points the rest of the half and led, 35-26 at the break.
Bates twice battled back to within five points within the first 5:30 of the second half but consecutive baskets by freshman
Ashley Clough made it a nine-point advantage with 13 minutes to go. RPI eventually increased its margin to as many as 18 points before winning by 13.
Osepa finished with 10 points, while Clough had nine. Brianna Hawkins, who had 11 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team, led Bates.
